Amy was also a co-chair of the Detroit Jewish Book Fair from 2002 to 2010, the oldest and largest Jewish book fair in the country. This event featured more than 70 authors from around the world and covered a wide range of book genres, such as children's books, fiction, cookbooks, literature, current events and more. Better Communities Alliance, rooted in Upstate South Carolina and Central North Carolina, stands as a committed front against the alarming rise of antisemitism, hate, and bigotry.
Fueled by a significant surge in antisemitic incidents—highlighted by the ADL's report of a 360% increase in such events within just three months post-October 7th, 2023—our initiative serves as a clarion call for unity and action.
Our mission is to counteract the spread of hatred by fostering educational sessions that encourage tough, yet necessary conversations. These dialogues aim to uphold the values of truth and understanding in a society often besieged by misinformation. Through these efforts, we emphasize the importance of open discourse, advocating for a community that listens, learns, and empathizes.
In Fall 2024, we will launch our local chapters of Rekindle, a project designed to bridge gaps between Black and Jewish communities. This project reflects our broader commitment to combatting all forms of prejudice. Along with our ongoing work, it embodies our belief in the transformative power of education and dialogue in healing divisions.
We invite volunteers, community leaders, advocates, spiritual and religious institutions, and elected officials across Upstate South Carolina and North Carolina to join our cause. Together, we can develop impactful programs that not only address the urgent challenges of antisemitism and hate but also foster a culture of diversity, understanding, and respect.
Your involvement is key. Engage with us to share insights and contribute to a movement aimed at building a society where dialogue prevails, and respect for truth and each other is paramount. Let’s work together to create a community that stands united against hate and bigotry, championing the ideals of education, dialogue, and mutual respect. Join the Better Communities Alliance in this critical mission. Together, we can make a meaningful difference.
